The major telecommunications exercise “Cerberus 2026”, organized by the Dodecanese Amateur Radio Association, evolved into an impressive event highlighting the critical role of communications during emergency situations, turning Rhodes into the center of Greek amateur radio activity.

The exercise was based on a scenario involving a powerful earthquake striking Rhodes and the Dodecanese islands, causing widespread disruption to conventional communication networks. Within this demanding and highly realistic framework, amateur radio operators from across Greece and abroad actively participated, contributing to the restoration of communications and the management of critical information in real time.

Particularly significant was the participation of the Civil Protection Department of the Municipality of Rhodes, which actively took part in the exercise together with nearly all volunteer response teams on the island, demonstrating in practice the importance of cooperation between volunteers and emergency services during times of crisis.

Representatives of the Civil Protection Directorate of the South Aegean Region were also present, offering strong support to the event, while the administration of the Rhodes Fire Service showed considerable interest and closely monitored the progress of the exercise. At the same time, the Rhodes EKAB (National Emergency Aid Center) Operations Center actively participated, with the heads of the Rhodes and Dodecanese sectors attending the exercise as observers of the operational scenario.

The Hellenic Red Cross also honored the exercise with its presence, further strengthening the humanitarian and rescue-oriented character of the event.

The scenario designed by the Dodecanese Amateur Radio Association impressed attendees, presenting a comprehensive simulation of communication restoration under conditions of a major natural disaster, including inter-agency coordination, team synchronization, and the continuous transmission of critical information.

The President of the Association, Pantelis Vasileiadis, warmly thanked all participating amateur radio operators, emphasizing that once again they demonstrated their operational readiness and their ability to keep communications alive when all other systems fail. He also expressed his gratitude to all organizations, public services, volunteer groups, and participants who supported the exercise and contributed to its successful implementation.
